CALYPSO LOVERS should not be asking "Howzat" this year in relation to the covers needed for staging Crop-Over events at Kensington Oval. A highly-placed Government source told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday: "It's expected that the covers would be here shortly and they should be ready and in place before the start of Crop-Over [July 5]." Last year, the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals and Cohobblopot were switched from Kensington Oval to the National Stadium about a week before they were to be staged at The Oval. The National Cultural Foundation later said it had "reconsidered plans" in light of "inadequate" covering of the field. The state agency also said the correct covering could only be sourced from overseas and time constraints would not allow for it to arrive in time. At a Press conference held in April, it was announced that the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals on August 1, Cohobblopot on August 3, and Junior Kadooment on July 26 would be at the redeveloped Kensington in Fontabelle, St Michael. The provision of lights for the events will be put out to tender. (DS)
